With advanced educational training from some of the nation’s most prestigious colleges and universities, our dermatologists stand ready to diagnose and treat dermatology conditions that affect patients of all ages. In fact, at every visit, each Midwest Dermatology patient sees a dermatologist. We invite you to get to know each of them, and see which one is best suited to meet your dermatology needs.

John R. Luckasen, M.D., is an Omaha native and actually founded Midwest Dermatology. Dr. Luckasen was one of the first dermatologists in the region to perform Mohs surgery, which has the highest cure rate of any skin cancer treatment. Dr. Luckasen has helped thousands of patients achieve successful cancer-free outcomes over the years.

Dr. Luckasen is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and he is also board certified by the American Board of Dermatopathology. Dr. Luckasen attended the University of Nebraska for both his undergraduate and medical degree programs. He then completed advanced specialty training at the University of Southern California and the University of Minnesota. Before settling in Omaha, Dr. Luckasen served his country as a military physician at the U.S. Army Hospital in Japan.

In addition to treating skin cancer patients, Dr. Luckasen treats patients suffering from skin diseases as well as patients seeking to enhance or alter their appearance. Like his colleagues, Dr. Luckasen holds a number of professional memberships in associations ranging from the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery to the American Society of Laser Medicine. He currently sees patients at the Doctors’ Building in midtown Omaha and at the Oakview office location.

Melissa Diamantis Darling, M.D., was born and raised in Omaha. Although she’s the newest member of the Midwest Dermatology team, Dr. Darling came into medicine at an early age, thanks to having a father who has practiced cardiology in Omaha for the last several decades.

Dr. Darling is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston/MD Anderson Cancer Center and went on to complete her dermatology residency at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock. In recognition of her achievement, she was named Chief Resident during the final year of her residency. Post residency, Dr. Darling participated as a Fellow in Dermatopathology at the University of Virginia. Working alongside two recognized experts in the field, Dr. Darling credits this subspecialty training for honing her diagnostic skills and ability to diagnose skin cancers, tumors, rashes and other skin conditions.

Dr. Darling is married and she and her husband are parents to two daughters. Interestingly, her sister is also a dermatologist who practices on the East Coast. It is unforeseen if they will ever practice in the same city, but they do enjoy attending meetings together!

Dr. Darling is currently welcoming new patients to her new Midwest Dermatology practice offices in Omaha at the Midtown, Lakeside and Oakview locations and in Bellevue.
