Tattoo Removal

Demand for tattoos is growing. According to the Pew Research Foundation, about 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo. Also growing is demand for laser tattoo removal.

For patients at Midwest Dermatology, the reasons for tattoo removal are as unique as each individual patient. Our patients may be:

  • Making a lifestyle change
  • Changing careers
  • Starting a family
  • Ending or starting a relationship
  • Making room for a new tattoo
  • Redoing an existing tattoo

AlexTri-Vantage® Q-Switched laser

Midwest Dermatology uses the advanced AlexTri-Vantage® Q-Switched laser to remove tattoos. Unlike previous generations of lasers, the AlexTri-Vantage is effective at removing tattoos of every ink color and every size.

In addition to tattoos that feature black and blue ink, the AlexTri-Vantage laser can remove tattoos that feature green, purple, red, orange and yellow ink without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Tattoo Removal – What to Expect

At Midwest Dermatology, patients can expect the tattoo removal process to be safe and effective. Here’s why:

  • Every tattoo removal patient has a consultation with a Midwest Dermatology physician before the procedure to examine the tattoo and discuss how many sessions will be required to remove it.
  • Tattoo removal is done at the Midwest Dermatology office. Not at a hospital or a large outpatient medical center.
  • Laser tattoo removal sessions only last about an hour each.
  • Because the AlexTri-Vantage Q-Switched Laser focuses on the ink instead of the skin, the procedure is relatively painless. Some patients say it feels like a small rubber band is being snapped against the skin.
  • The laser light passes harmlessly through the outer layer of skin and is rapidly absorbed by the tattoo ink that sits right under the skin’s surface. The laser light shatters the ink into minuscule particles that are expelled from the body naturally.
  • Topical anesthesia is available and can be applied to the skin, but most patients complete the procedure without it.
  • Laser tattoo removal doesn’t involve any downtime. Patients can walk out of the office and return to their normal schedules immediately.

A few weeks after each laser tattoo removal session, your body will eliminate the ink particles and the tattoo will fade away leaving clear skin behind. The number of sessions needed to completely remove a tattoo depends upon the size, color and depth of the tattoo.
