MOLE MAPPING WITH FOTOFINDER

Advancements in technology have greatly enhanced dermatologists’ ability to detect early-stage melanoma. Malignant melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer, but with early diagnosis, the 5-year survival rate can reach 99%. At Midwest Dermatology, we are proud to offer cutting-edge mole mapping and digital dermoscopy using the FotoFinder® system for early skin cancer detection. Visit our Papillion office to take advantage of these advanced diagnostic services.
WHAT IS MOLE MAPPING AND DERMOSCOPY?

Using a specialized camera designed for high-resolution photography in dermatology, we systematically capture images of your body from head to toe (mole mapping) and high-resolution, microscopic photos of your at-risk moles (digital dermoscopy). The FotoFinder system creates a “body map” of your skin lesions, and the entire process takes just minutes in the privacy and comfort of our FotoFinder Suite in the Papillion office.

The mole images can be measured, analyzed, and stored in a digital database. During annual FotoFinder rechecks, new images are taken and digitally compared with photos from your initial baseline visit to immediately identify new or changed moles on your body. Detecting these slight changes can help in the early detection of potential skin cancer.

Who should get mole mapping done?

If any of the following questions apply to you, have your moles checked yearly by your physician and consider scheduling FotoFinder mole mapping:

  • Do you have multiple moles (more than 50)?
  • Do you have large or irregular-looking moles?
  • Have you noticed any new moles or changes in your moles?
  • Do you have very light skin or red hair?
  • Did you have sunburns during childhood, or have you used tanning beds?
  • Do you take immunosuppressive medication?

FotoFinder appointments are available for New or Existing patients.  FotoFinder mole mapping is a tool to assist your dermatologist in the examination process and aid in early detection of skin cancer and does not take the place of your regular skin check appointment. Patients should continue to schedule routine skin checks with their dermatologist.

To schedule your FotoFinder appointment, call our office at (402) 933-0800, or book an appointment using our online scheduling option at midwestderm.com. FotoFinder imaging is done at the Midwest Dermatology Papillion location at 1413 South Washington Street, Suite 240.

Insurance and Cost
  • Insurance coverage for FotoFinder mole mapping varies by carrier.
  • If you have a personal or family history of skin cancer, your insurance may cover some or all of your FotoFinder appointment according to the terms of your policy.
  • Some insurance carriers require preauthorization before the appointment to receive coverage. Please contact your insurance provider directly with any questions, as we do not know the coverage terms for your specific policy.
  • Note that FotoFinder and annual skin checks are not considered “preventative healthcare” by the insurance industry and are not paid under those benefits.
  • The out of pocket cost is $250 for patients who’s insurance do not cover FotoFinder. This includes total body imaging, dermoscopy imaging and storage and Midwest Dermatology physician analysis.
