How Does V-Beam Work?
The V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser delivers short bursts of light that pass through the outer layer of the skin and target blood vessels beneath it.
The light energy is absorbed by the blood vessels, causing them to heat. The body then gradually reabsorbs the treated vessels through its natural healing process, allowing the color of the birthmark or vascular lesion to fade over time.
The laser is designed to precisely target these blood vessels while protecting the surrounding skin.
Treating Birthmarks in Children
Parents may be understandably nervous about the idea of laser treatment for a baby or young child.
V-Beam can be used to treat patients of many ages, including infants and children. Treatment is performed in our Midwest Dermatology office by a dermatologist with extensive laser experience.
V-Beam also features a Dynamic Cooling Device that can deliver a brief cooling spray immediately before each laser pulse to help protect the skin and make treatment more comfortable.

What Is Treatment Like?
During treatment, the V-Beam laser delivers a series of brief pulses to the targeted area. Patients may feel a quick warming or snapping sensation with each pulse.
Treatment time depends on the size and location of the area being treated. Most patients are able to return to their normal activities soon afterward.
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or discoloration can occur following treatment. Your dermatologist will provide specific instructions for caring for the area while it heals.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Birthmarks and vascular lesions don’t all respond in the same way.
The number of treatments needed depends on the type, size, color and depth of the birthmark or vascular lesion as well as the patient’s individual response to treatment. Some areas may improve significantly with treatment but not disappear completely.
