With Our Dermatologists, The Patient Is Always Front And Center
At Midwest Dermatology, our four dermatologists have one single, simple mission – to ensure your skin is at its best.
While they are all board-certified dermatologists with extensive training and experience in diagnosing and properly treating more than 3,000 diseases of the skin, hair and nails (plus, cosmetic issues), they are all individuals, too. Each of them brings their unique life experiences and backgrounds to their daily practice of dermatology.
Real Patients Share Their Experiences
This means at every appointment our patients receive not only expert dermatologic care, but also experience excellent patient care. If you need proof, see for yourself and read what current and former patients say about their experiences with our dermatologists.
“I recently was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma. I found Dr. Madson and his staff to be caring, friendly, and courteous! They answered any questions that I needed answered…gave me more than one option for treatment…and provided me with the information I needed to take home with me when caring for myself at home after the procedure I had done! I would highly recommend him and his team!”
“Dr. Darling was wonderful! After seeing several doctors and not getting answers she took the time to listen to our concerns not just look at us like overprotective parents. She took one look at our kids and knew what was going on, a few days later and they are doing awesome! We were only in town for a few days, and they were able to squeeze us in. Dr. Darling definitely lives up to her name she was so respectful and attentive to not only us as the parents but also showed she cared for our kids.”
“I’ve been going to Dr. Papenfuss for several years & would recommend him with my full confidence. (I’ve done so verbally to friends I know & work with!) He is professional, very knowledgeable, but also very caring & will take the time to listen & answer questions or concerns. I think he does a thorough exam, explanation of findings, plan of action & treatment! I’ve been going to the office in Norfolk for over 20 years & highly recommend Midwest Dermatology. They seem to hire excellent doctors!”
“I went to Dr. Parker for my adult acne. I was really impressed how concerned he was and how he took the time to listen. I’m a nurse, so I deal with rushed doctors all day and I was so impressed with how much time he took to listen and ask questions. It’s been a few months and my acne is gone. I’m loving the program he put me on, and I don’t think I’m going to need to go back in for my follow up appointment because it’s seriously gone!”
These patient comments go to show that “Your Best Skin Starts Here” is not just a catch phrase. Instead, it’s the guiding principle behind what our four dermatologists do every day.
Board-Certified Dermatologists: Spotting the Difference
One of the aspects that distinguishes a physician from a board-certified dermatologist is that, when it comes to your skin, a dermatologist knows the difference between something small – and something major. They also understand the relationship between the small things – like a mole – and your overall health and well-being.
For example, all of our dermatologists have extra training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer. Skin cancer often starts small – think the size of a mole. Diagnosing and treating skin cancer effectively takes a physician with truly advanced knowledge and training.
With dual and even triple board certifications in areas like Mohs surgery and dermatopathology, our group is highly specialized in this area. We even have a Mohs Fellow, Dr. Collin Parker, who has intensive training in the surgical removal of tumors in difficult locations and in performing complex skin reconstruction after a Mohs surgical procedure.
But even Dr. Parker, a true skin cancer expert, starts with the small things, like skin examinations that involve a physician looking for potential skin cancers. “First and foremost, catching skin cancer early is the key to survival for melanoma, explains Dr. Parker.
“Secondly, we are trying to assess skin cancer risk in the future. If you’re at risk, we want to make sure we are monitoring your skin appropriately. Lastly, we want to help educate our patients on how to spot sin cancer. Approximately half of all skin cancers are noticed by the patient before they come to the doctor.”
In addition to their skin cancer expertise, board-certified dermatologists can:
- Treat a baby’s prominent birthmark that is threatening the child’s eyesight.
- Remove a mother’s deadly melanoma at its earliest, most treatable stage.
- Offer relief for a student whose discomfort from chronic eczema makes sleep nearly impossible.
- Diagnose the life-threatening liver condition causing a grandfather’s unbearable itching.
- Treat the hair loss of a young woman, helping her gain the confidence to search for a job.
And dermatologists can do all of this because they are able to spot the difference and effectively treat small annoyances and major medical conditions.
Our Dermatologists Care About Your Quality of Life
If you have a skin condition that causes a rash, itching, skin lesions or other signs that something is wrong, our dermatologists will evaluate you for all likely causes. Sometimes, we determine that a skin condition may have a serious impact on your health and well-being. It may be a sign of a serious underlying health issue, and your Midwest Dermatology physician may be the first one to notice it. For example, signs of diabetes and heart disease can show up on the skin first.
But a skin condition doesn’t have to be life-threatening to significantly reduce a person’s quality of life. A skin condition, whether it’s eczema, hair loss that causes scarring or psoriasis, can cause sleep loss, poor self-image, serious depression, or even lost productivity.
Rest assured, we always take your and every patient’s concerns seriously. Our team is here to improve your quality of life and treat the symptoms of chronic skin conditions, as well as find a solution for skin diseases that can be eradicated.
That same care and concern extends to our diagnosis and treatment of cosmetic skin issues. This includes challenges such as:
- Wrinkles
- Sagging skin
- Skin discoloration
- Skin’s loss of volume
Board-certified dermatologists are often the first in the area to offer some of the most advanced cosmetic treatments (think things like deep peels, microneedling, Dysport and more). But perhaps the best benefit to seeing a dermatologist for a cosmetic issue is that he or she has the ability to help you prevent major skin problems before they ever begin.
This means that with an appointment at any of Midwest Dermatology’s six office locations, you get the peace of mind and the confidence that comes with knowing “your best skin starts here,” in the office of a board-certified dermatologic skin specialist.
