Understanding TCA CROSS Treatment for Deep Acne Scars

TCA CROSS is most effective for ice pick scars, narrow deep scars, and certain small pitted acne scars. It is generally less effective for broader rolling scars or discoloration left behind by acne. The procedure itself is relatively quick and performed in the office. Patients typically experience a temporary stinging sensation during treatment. The treated scars immediately turn white, then form small scabs as they heal over the following week. Mild redness and flaking are common during recovery, and careful sun protection is important while the skin heals.

One of the most important things patients should understand is that TCA CROSS is usually a process rather than a one time treatment. Most patients require a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. Results develop gradually as collagen remodeling occurs beneath the skin.
