Kapow! The 1-2 Punch to Knock Out Acne

Acne.  It’s the first word that comes to mind when you think of a dermatologist.  For years, our physicians have kept on top of the latest advances in acne treatment resulting in thousands of happy, clear-skinned patients.

But, while modern medicine may hold the answer to clear skin, it takes time. And, even after skin clears, there may be an occasional breakout.  So, we’ve taken the next step to ensure fewer breakouts and healthier skin while your medication targets the root cause of acne. As it turns out, it’s a two-part team approach.

Say hello to Kimberly Niebur, licensed aesthetician and skin care enthusiast! Kim has been treating acne patients in our beautiful spa room at Midwest DERMaesthetics, the luxury med spa inside Midwest Dermatology Lakeside.  We asked Kim a few questions about her approach to acne.

Should I see an aesthetician or a dermatologist for my acne?

How about both! Your Midwest Dermatology physician will take a medicine-based approach.  They have an arsenal of prescriptions ranging from topical medications to oral pills to treat moderate to severe acne. As an aesthetician, I take a deeper dive into all things related to your lifestyle. My approach includes recommendations on home care products – what to use and what NOT to use – and some aesthetic treatments that will help keep your skin clear. Patients with very mild acne or people who prefer to take a more holistic approach to treatment are welcome to make an appointment to see me, too. We can work together to improve your skin and determine if / when the time comes for a doctor to become involved.

What can an aesthetician do to improve my breakouts?

I’ll recommend a skincare routine and treatments that work for you, your life and your skin. When it comes to healthy skin, 70% of results come from your daily skin care.  That’s where I come in – setting you up for success! And, I’ll share my tips and do’s and don’ts for acne-prone skin.

Kim’s last words of wisdom on acne are something everyone can benefit from

What is your “go to” product for patients with acne?

No doubt, it’s Gly/Sal pads (in 5:2 and 10:2 strength). They are clarifying daily use pads that combine glycolic and salicylic acid in a gentle formula. There is no other home care product like it.

In addition to establishing a customized skin care regimen for you, Kimberly offers services that treat active breakouts and leave your skin looking amazing.

Extractions – The #1 rule of acne is don’t pick at it! But, if blackheads and whiteheads are the bane of your existence, let us help. Kimberly uses sterilized tools and her dermatology expertise to gently extract active lesions. Schedule regular extraction appointments, or call us whenever you need to get your face in its best shape for an important event.

HydraFacials – Talk about exfoliation! A HydraFacial is like a power wash that rids your

face of grime, pollutants and all those yucky dead skin cells. Featuring a patented vortex-technology, HydraFacials gently loosen and remove debris from your pores.  Finally, we saturate the skin with antioxidants and peptides for the signature HydraFacial glow. It’s the ultimate treatment for most skin problems, and definitely a great boost for acne-prone skin.

Peels – Gentle acne-targeted peels are a mainstay in our aesthetician’s arsenal.  The goal is exfoliation, which opens your skin’s pores and controls breakouts. Peels pair well with custom home care products.

There you have it – combining traditional medical care with the holistic approach of a licensed aesthetician.is the real 1-2 punch of acne treatment. The scientific approach of a doctor, plus a chance to talk at length about your lifestyle and skin care at home with a caring expert.
