Are You Truly Serious About Your Health If You Ignore Skin Cancer?

You hit the gym, eat your veggies, and keep up with regular checkups—but are you overlooking the biggest organ in your body? Skin cancer doesn’t just happen to sun-worshippers (though, let’s be honest, that’s a major factor). It’s a real health risk that’s often ignored until it’s too late. If you’re serious about your health, it’s time to make skin cancer early detection a priority.

Why Skin Cancer Surveillance Matters

Did you know malignant melanoma can spread and become life-threatening in just six weeks? Scary, right? Then there’s squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), the second most common skin cancer, affecting 1.8 million people annually in the U.S. While most SCCs are treatable, untreated cases can become disfiguring, invasive, or even fatal.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) may be labeled as “minor,” but with 3.6 million cases diagnosed each year, it’s anything but rare. BCCs typically stay put, but when ignored, they can grow wide and deep, damaging skin, underlying tissue, and even bone. So, don’t put off your skin check—you don’t want to be the one who regrets ignoring early signs.

Take Skin Cancer Seriously: Early Detection is Key

At Midwest Dermatology, we believe in taking a proactive approach to skin cancer—because, when it comes to your health, there’s no room for waiting around. That’s why we offer FotoFinder, an advanced imaging system right in our Papillion office that can detect skin cancer early and help save your life.

FotoFinder: Available for All Midwest Dermatology Patients, New and Returning

This service isn’t just for a select few—it’s open to all patients, regardless of your Midwest Dermatology provider, as well as NEW patients.  With FotoFinder, you get cutting-edge technology and peace of mind. The results are read by our own trained, board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Justin Madson, and shared directly with your Midwest Dermatology physician to ensure the best care possible.

Mole Mapping with FotoFinder: A Step Toward Prevention

Advancements in technology have greatly enhanced dermatologists’ ability to detect early-stage melanoma. Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer, but with early diagnosis, the 5-year survival rate can reach 99%. We’re proud to offer cutting-edge mole mapping and digital dermoscopy using the FotoFinder system to help catch skin cancer in its earliest stages.

What is Mole Mapping and Dermoscopy?

With a specialized camera designed for high-resolution dermatology photography, we capture images of your skin from head to toe (mole mapping) and microscopic photos of any at-risk moles (digital dermoscopy). The FotoFinder system creates a “body map” of your skin lesions, and the process takes just minutes in the privacy and comfort of our FotoFinder Suite.

The images are securely stored in a digital database, allowing us to measure, analyze, and compare them at follow-up visits. During annual FotoFinder rechecks, new images are compared with your baseline photos to detect any changes—no matter how subtle—that could indicate skin cancer. Early detection is crucial, and spotting these changes can mean the difference between a quick fix and something far more serious.

Who Should Get Mole Mapping Done?

If you’re serious about taking care of your skin and your health, we’re looking at you! Here are some other reasons you might want to call our office pronto:

  • Have you been diagnosed with skin cancer? How about a family member? You are immediately at higher risk.
  • Do you have more than 50 moles?
  • Do you have large or irregular-looking moles?
  • Have you noticed any new moles or changes in your existing ones?
  • Do you have very light skin or red hair?
  • Did you experience sunburns as a child or use tanning beds?
  • Do you take immunosuppressive medication?
Schedule Your FotoFinder Appointment

FotoFinder is a powerful tool to help catch skin cancer early, but it doesn’t replace your regular skin check with a dermatologist. It’s a great complement to your ongoing care, available to both new and existing patients.

To schedule your appointment, call us at (402) 933-0800 or use our online scheduling tool at midwestderm.com. Just click the “Book An Appointment

” link and choose the FotoFinder Mole Mapping option.

Insurance & Cost

Insurance coverage for FotoFinder mole mapping varies by carrier. If you have a personal or family history of skin cancer, your insurance may cover some or all of the cost. However, keep in mind that FotoFinder and annual skin checks are generally not considered preventative healthcare by insurers and may not be covered by standard benefits.

If your insurance doesn’t cover it, the out-of-pocket cost is $250, which includes total body imaging, dermoscopy imaging, storage, and analysis by our physicians. It’s a small investment for the peace of mind that comes with knowing your skin is healthy.

Call (402) 933-0800 or schedule online at midwestderm.com to book your appointment today. If you’re serious about your health, don’t wait—take control and protect your skin from the risk of deadly skin cancer.
