You’ve Got Skin Care Questions…And We’ve Got Answers!

People ask us all the time – what type of facial should I get?

Our dermatology aesthetician at Midwest DERMaesthetics (tucked right inside the Midwest Dermatology Lakeside office) hears this question every day. Fortunately, with her experience working at Midwest Dermatology and her specialized training in aesthetic skin care, licensed aesthetician Kimberly Niebur can help!

Q:  What is the difference between a facial at a dermatology office and a day-spa?

A:  The truth is, it can be a much trickier question to answer than most people think. That’s because all facials are not created equally. Our advice is based on the health and condition of your skin, plus the results you are looking for. For example, one facial people often ask about is the HydraFacial. If you have never experienced this super hydrating treat, read on for all the details.

Q:  The HydraFacial: What’s It All About?

A:  For starters, a HydraFacial is perfect for virtually all skin types, conditions and concerns. As long as you are not suffering from an extreme cystic breakout or don’t have any active infections or allergies to sulfa drugs, you’re a candidate! The highlight of the treatment is that it gently but effectively exfoliates the skin, making it smoother and brighter. A HydraFacial also reduces signs of aging and sun damage and helps treat milder forms of acne as it features a deep cleanse while extracting clogged pores.

Q:  Can you explain the various HydraFacial boosters and upgrades?

A:  The Signature HydraFacial is our classic HydraFacial experience. It includes a deep cleanse, extensive pore extraction and soothing hydration facial. If you’re looking for more targeted results, you can customize your HydraFacial in the form of boosters, add-ons and specialty upgrades.

Our Deluxe HydraFacial boosters include a concentrated peptide formulation designed to hydrate, firm and soothe skin to address fine lines, wrinkles, skin tone evenness, and texture. Other serums help target pigmented (darkened) areas of concern using a blend of Vitamin C and Alpha Arbutin to help achieve a more even complexion and tone of skin. Lymphatic Drainage, available in our top-of-the-line Platinum HydraFacial helps to detoxify the skin, as well as helps with sinus congestion.

HydraFacial Lip Perk uses peony extract, peppermint, aloe and vitamin E to exfoliate, hydrate, smoothen, plump and conditions your lips. This treatment locks in moisture to reveal a perfect glow. A take-home lip serum is included to last until your next treatment.

HydraFacial Eye Perk treats the most sensitive skin on the face by providing gentle ingredients exactly where they’re needed. Our dermatology aesthetician uses arnica, green tea, citric acid and peptides to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, puffiness, and dark circles. The treatment hydrates skin around the eyes and promotes elasticity in the under-eye area, leaving your eyes looking brighter and smoother. As an added bonus, you’ll get under eye serum for home use.

Note, HydraFacial Lip Perk and Eye Perk are available as add-on services with any facial.
