Dermatologists have used advanced technology medical lasers to target specified skin conditions for more than 40 years. At Midwest Dermatology Clinic, our arsenal of lasers are used to erase red and brown birthmarks, eliminate broken blood vessels, remove tattoos of all sizes and colors, and provide long term relief from unwanted hair. Recent advances include aesthetic laser treatment using Ultrapulse FX laser to reverse the visible signs of aging.

Birthmark Removal

Birthmarks come in all shapes in sizes. Some are small and barely there, while others are prominent and may cause issues with appearance, self-esteem and even health and well-being.

Midwest Dermatology removes birthmarks using the industry-leading V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser, which is particularly effective against red birthmarks and vascular lesions, including:

  • Port wine stain birthmarks
  • Strawberry hemangiomas
  • Broken blood vessels
  • Spider veins
  • Other vascular lesions

At Midwest Dermatology, patients can have peace of mind about the birthmark removal process. In fact, the V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser is safe enough to be used to treat patients of all ages, from infants through adults. Here’s how it works:

  • The laser treatment is performed by a dermatologist with years of training and at least a decade of laser treatment experience.
  • The procedure is done in the Midwest Dermatology office, not a hospital or a large outpatient medical center.
  • The V-Beam Pulsed Dye Laser emits intense but gentle bursts of light that pass through the skin’s outer layer. The light is absorbed by the blood vessels in the birthmark, the vessels warm up and then the body reabsorbs the blood in the vessels.
  • There is no scarring or long-term damage to the skin surrounding the birthmark.
  • Midwest Dermatology offers patients the option to use the Dynamic Cooling Device during treatment. Before each burst of laser light, the skin receives a cooling spray. This protects the skin and keeps patients comfortable.
  • There is no downtime. Both children and adults can return to their normal activities immediately after undergoing treatment.
  • After treatment, the blood vessels from the birthmark are reabsorbed by during the normal healing process. During this process, the birthmark or vascular lesion fades away, leaving clear skin behind.

Demand for tattoos is growing. According to the Pew Research Foundation, about 45 million Americans have at least one tattoo. Also growing is demand for laser tattoo removal.

For patients at Midwest Dermatology, the reasons for tattoo removal are as unique as each individual patient. Our patients may be:

  • Making a lifestyle change
  • Changing careers
  • Starting a family
  • Ending or starting a relationship
  • Making room for a new tattoo
  • Redoing an existing tattoo

Midwest Dermatology uses the advanced AlexTri-Vantage® Q-Switched laser to remove tattoos. Unlike previous generations of lasers, the AlexTri-Vantage is effective at removing tattoos of every ink color and every size.

In addition to tattoos that feature black and blue ink, the AlexTri-Vantage laser can remove tattoos that feature green, purple, red, orange and yellow ink without damaging the outer layer of skin.

Tattoo Removal – What to Expect

At Midwest Dermatology, patients can expect the tattoo removal process to be safe and effective. Here’s why:

  • Every tattoo removal patient has a consultation with a Midwest Dermatology physician before the procedure to examine the tattoo and discuss how many sessions will be required to remove it.
  • Tattoo removal is done at the Midwest Dermatology office. Not at a hospital or a large outpatient medical center.
  • Laser tattoo removal sessions only last about an hour each.
  • Because the AlexTri-Vantage Q-Switched Laser focuses on the ink instead of the skin, the procedure is relatively painless. Some patients say it feels like a small rubber band is being snapped against the skin.
  • The laser light passes harmlessly through the outer layer of skin and is rapidly absorbed by the tattoo ink that sits right under the skin’s surface. The laser light shatters the ink into minuscule particles that are expelled from the body naturally.
  • Topical anesthesia is available and can be applied to the skin, but most patients complete the procedure without it.
  • Laser tattoo removal doesn’t involve any downtime. Patients can walk out of the office and return to their normal schedules immediately.

A few weeks after each laser tattoo removal session, your body will eliminate the ink particles and the tattoo will fade away leaving clear skin behind. The number of sessions needed to completely remove a tattoo depends upon the size, color and depth of the tattoo.
